Position Purpose:
•Provide strategic direction and thought leadership to the organizational effort to build resilience by embedding new ways of work that are safe and sustainable from a health and wellness perspective.
•Provide leadership and guidance in the design and development of Transnet’s Occupational Health & Wellness strategy, frameworks and policies ensuring alignment to business needs and strategic business objectives
•Implement best practice Employee Assistance Programmes, medical management, surveillance and wellness campaigns and programmes to ensure a healthy and productive workforce.
•Provide strategic leadership and guidance in the provision of holistic and flexible occupational health, wellness and risk mitigation services through preventative and curative practices to ensure a work environment that is safe, dignified and respectful to all Transnet staff, their families and the communities in which they operate and impact.
•Ensure the integration of technology to effectively promote, track and manage well-being programs from an integrated platform able to increase the value of well-being investments and ensure sustainable data solutions that are standardised,

•Build a strong health and wellness value proposition aligned to the occupational health and wellness needs of the organization.
•Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements related to Occupational Health and Wellness.
•Collaborate with, and build relationships across corporate entities and key stakeholders to ensure transversal integration and implementation across the organization.

Position outputs:
Functional leadership
•Provide strategic direction and leadership in the development and implementation of the Occupational Health & Wellness strategy in compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
•Manage implementation of the strategy and roadmap elements in accordance with proposed outputs, policies, procedures and legal requirements.

•Ensure that relevant frameworks, processes and procedures are in place to manage and implement the various
occupational health and wellness initiatives.
•Lead and direct the development and implementation of occupational health and wellness processes and systems to ensure conformance with all relevant legislation and regulation
•Ensure proper governance and compliance by ensuring that the necessary controls are in place and that existing controls are continuously reviewed and updated.
•Coordinate the implementation of independent audit plans and evaluations of related programs
•Ensure that needs analyses and surveys are conducted to ensure that the needs of the business are appropriately addressed through the occupational health and wellness programs offered by the organisation
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements related to Occupational Health and Wellness.
•Lead and guide the drafting of an implementation framework to ensure compliance with all prescripts of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
•Ensure all relevant processes and procedures in place to manage and implement the various Occupational Health initiatives comply with legislative requirements.
•Integrate the current Injury-on-Duty (IOD) and Occupational Health Management processes so as to optimise legislative compliance.
•Ensure proper governance and compliance by ensuring that the necessary governance is in place and that existing controls are continuously reviewed and updated.
•Coordinate the implementation of independent audit plans and evaluations of related programs.
•Develop and influence policies pertaining to employee well-being, and address inequalities and irregularities in policies by ensuring that health and wellness remains high on the leadership agenda.
Stakeholder Relations Management

•Ensure that roles and responsibilities of key role players are clearly specified.
•Maintain ongoing engagement to ensure that strategic relationships are maintained.
•Manage and occupational health and wellness service providers and ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements Lead and Direct Strategic Interventions
•Identify the need for strategic interventions as may be directed by Transnet leadership from time to time.
•Develop and influence policies pertaining to employee well-being, and address inequalities and irregularities in policies by
ensuring that health and wellness remains high on the leadership agenda.
•Engage in environmental scanning to identify areas where occupational health and wellness can make a positive impact within the business context.
•Identify appropriate interventions within the current economic and business contexts.
•Network with various key stakeholders to ensure alignment of Wellness & Occupational Health policies and practices to best
practice.
•Represent the Occupational Health and Wellness function on various forums internally and externally.
•Provide appropriate, required information and guidance to governance structures to ensure informed and effective
management decision making.

Vendor Management
•Manage, track and monitor all Occupational Health & Wellness transversal contracts in line with the Transnet. Contract
Management Framework
•Lead and guide the Group Occupational Health & Wellness team in the design of all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with
various vendors and support the team in managing vendors against the various SLAs.
•Ensure Operating Divisions comply with the controls that have been put in place for all contracts.
•Ensure that contract spend is monitored against overall contractual value.
Financial management
•Manage expenditure in line with strategic priorities within budgetary guidelines, and report deviations .
People Management
•Coach, mentor and manage human resources as required in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
•B-degree in Occupational Health, Wellness, Legal, medical or relevant field is required.
•Post graduate qualification in Business Management or relevant will be an advantage.
•At least 15 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Wellness or related field within a large enterprise of which at least
7 years at a senior managerial level.
•Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19.
Competencies:
Knowledge
•In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Wellness methodologies, systems, processes and frameworks.
•Sound knowledge of relevant Acts.
•Insight into the development of sustainable solutions.
•Sound knowledge of Employee Assistance Programmes, medical management, surveillance and wellness campaigns and
programmes.
