JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Engineering Foreman, this role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical equipment within the electrical discipline according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide subject matter expertise and skills in area of responsibility; advising on solutions to enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the department/section.

 Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act Regulations and Manufacturing and Company Standards and report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Foreman.  Perform risk assessments (Activity based and Mini).  De-energise and apply the lock-out procedure as per Company policy.  Responsible for conveyer maintenance.  Responsible for electrical distribution and control cable installation, jointing and termination.  Responsible for electrical motor installation and replacement.  Responsible for gully box installation and maintenance.  Responsible for medium voltage protection systems.  Responsible for motor control centre and distribution board installation.  Responsible for overhead crane maintenance.  Responsible for the installation of lighting systems.  Responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment (e.g. MV and LV Switchgear, Electrical Motors, Lighting Systems, MCC panels, Electrical distribution boards).  Responsible to operate and maintain standby generator.  Ensure capacity and bench strength of talent pool in area of responsibility by coordinating, directing and leading subordinates.  Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system within the operation.  Company Policy & Procedures Compliance: Takes cognisance of and adhere to Company policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Manage and report on non-compliance issues.  Safety, Health and Environment Compliance: Model behaviour that is consistent with the Company Safety, Health and Environment Vision and Values. Manage and report on non-compliance issues.  Supervises subordinates in the designated area by:

  • prioritising tasks according to requirements and briefing/instructing subordinates on specifications and time parameters when necessary;
  • over-inspecting equipment, work areas and tasks performed to ensure that standards are met;
  • identifying the training requirements of subordinates and making recommendations accordingly or performing on-the-job training as required;
  • controlling labour/relief requirements and leave rosters as/when necessary;
  • advising/guiding/coaching/disciplining subordinates appropriately;
  • ensuring compliance with Company policies and procedures, set standards and statutory requirement;
  • ensuring cooperation, improve morale and satisfaction within team;
  • inspiring loyalty and trust;
  • providing effective feedback to subordinates. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Grade 10 

N2 Certificate 

Qualified Electrician Trade Certificate through a recognised institution and apprenticeship** 

3 years post Apprenticeship/Qualification experience as an Electrician 

3 years’ experience with MV Switchgear, MV Switching and MV Equipment Maintenance – please specify on your application  MV Courses (required for MV Switching and MV Equipment Maintenance) – please attach course certificate(s)  Valid Drivers’ License (EB license required)

** Candidates holding a QCTO (Section 26D) Trade Test, where the learning route is not specified on the Certificate, must submit the following: Statement of results issued by an accredited MQA trade test centre as well as evidence of training conducted at a technical training centre (e.g. Portfolio of Evidence, Logbooks). Should these documents not be submitted, the application will not be considered. Candidates holding S28 Trade Test certificates from non-Mining Sector centres will not be considered.

Computer Literacy and Microsoft Office Suite

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: 

Pass Vienna Assessment (level 2) – this assessment will be done on Mine 

Demonstrate fault finding skills on specific equipment and electrical circuits 

Knowledge of MV reticulation 

Know and understand Company policy and procedures regarding medium voltage switching 

Know and understand Company electrical isolation and lock-out policy and procedures 

Know and understand Company policy and procedures for relay reset and re-energizing circuit after trip 

Demonstrate knowledge and skill to read and interpret electrical drawings and diagrams 

Be able to use and Interpret correct portable measuring and test equipment for task 

Know and understand the functioning and installation of low and Medium voltage equipment 

Demonstrate knowledge and skill in VSD parameter identification and programming 

Know and understand legislative requirements regarding the wiring and installation of electrical distribution boards 

Know and understand the functioning and installation of control and protection equipment used in motor control centres (e.g. MCBs, Isolators, Contactors, Soft-Starters, VSD, overload relays, relays.)
